Chiropractic focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. The nervous system controls every muscle, organ, and tissue in the body. If there is something wrong with your nervous system, then your spine and musculoskeletal system will be negatively impacted - so will the rest of your body. Chiropractic care is one of the best ways to get the nervous system and the rest of your body functioning optimally, helping the body to adapt and heal itself at a higher level.
Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches. Doctors of Chiropractic practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.
What is an Adjustment?
The adjustment is the specific hands-on technique only performed by chiropractors. It is usually a high velocity, low amplitude thrust that is applied to a vertebrae that is stuck in place (the subluxation). The vertebrae then moves and usually a "popping" sound is heard. The "pop" is the movement of nitrogen in the joint. The adjustment relieves the nerve interference and restores proper mobility.
